Cross Stitched Book Page

Lauren DiCioccio Cross Stitched Book Page

I presented many ideas on book recycling before, to embellish a book page with cross stitch belongs absolutely into this category :)

Felt and Zipper Jewelry

etsy Woolly Fabulous Felt and Zipper Jewelry

I don’t present the felt and zipper jewelry as tutorial, but as suggestion what you can do with little material :)
You can do similar things also as e.g. embroidered paper or as simple doodle for greeting cards, as jewelry or decoration.

Faux Quilt Votives

Just Something I Made Faux Quilt Votives

I find this idea really great, too: simply scan old quilts, print, sew a little and wrap around a votive ;-)
It’s a little bit as with the Fabric/Paper Place Mat.
And I think that it would look wonderful, too, with a paper Crazy Quilt!

By the way: the paper gets more transparent when you paint it slightly with oil.
It will smell a while, but then the smell disappears ;-)

On the page she also shows how to print the quilt picture onto inkjet T-shirt transfer and embellish leather with it – great!

When I saw these place mats I was compleeetly thrilled: that’s exactly what I love so much!
She seems to use as well fabric as paper – many of these self coloured.
And I do love to work with paper, e.g. at my paper shopping bag or my paper Crazy Quilt ;-)

Stencilled Card

(Click photo to enlarge)
Recently I needed a birthday card and that is the reason why I played around with stencilling again ;-)

unikatissima Stencilled Card
I wanted to have a negativ stencilled feather and sketched and cut therefore a feather.
Here I’ve made my first tests already.

unikatissima Stencilled Card
I covered my feather with light brown chalk and smeared the chalk with my fingers outwards.
This way I got white areas around my stencil which made the quill of my feather much too broad for my liking (see arrow).

Therefore I cut two half-stencils and used them.
It worked great!
Another advantage of this half-stencil method is the fact, that the really narrow quill of my feather can’t slip or even tear anymore.

unikatissima Stencilled Card
I glued a cut-out feather shifted on my stencilled feather and because I thought that something is missing, I embroidered some lines with golden thread.
I used a running stitch back and forth as I always do.

That’s how the inside of the card looks – I left it this way and wrote on the right side of the card.

And that’s how the finished card looks: I liked it ;-) and the adressee liked it, too :)

Admittedly the card looks still a little bumpy here because I fixed the chalk with hair spray. After everything was (really!) dry I put it under a heavy book and afterwards it was beautifully flat again.

Sashiko Embroidery

unikatissima Sashiko Embroidery

Actually I don’t want to talk only about Sashiko embroidery but about Sashiko embroidery on paper – I just prefer to embroider on paper ;-))

I discovered Sashiko embroidery one day when surfing the internet and found the results just beautiful!
The basic principle (as far as I understood) is that Sashiko embroidery is mostly a shape filling embroidery and the lines are worked as ‘dashed lines’ where the spaces between the dashes are about half as long as the dashes themselves (simply check the tutorials (for ‘real’ Sashiko embroidery) in the links, they explained it better).

Then I saw one day that our toilet paper (top left on the picture) doesn’t only have a nice pattern but that I can use the pressure points for a Sashiko embroidery by using alternately the left and the right side of the points as needle entry points.
Therefore I trace-pricked the pattern on paper (bottom right on the picture) and embroidered it in two colours.
I find that you can’t see any more on the result that it is made by ‘cheating’ from toilet paper ;-))

unikatissima Sashiko Embroidery Here a look at the backside.
I will glue it on a card and send as a greeting card.
To people who use different toilet paper ;-))

Sun Card

unikatissima Sun Card

Recently I needed a card for a man which had to show the colours wine red and gold.
What is more I wanted it simple yet elegant and I think that it worked out ;-))
(Click the picture to get an enlarged view.)

unikatissima Sun Card Inside The pattern shows inside, too.
Because I didn’t like the writing to be directly on the wine red I put a crème coloured paper in.

unikatissima Sun Card Template You can click the thumbnail of the template to download the enlarged template. The template is about 10 cm (appr. 4 inches), if you like to have a different size you will have to adapt the print size.

Simply lay the template on your card and prick all holes where you want to thread the yarn through (there are several possibilities, just try it).
Then weave in the thread.

Note: If you use an overlong thread you only get a thread tangle.
That’s why I worked in rings that I finished one by one.
You can find the technique that I used to thread the yarn through the hole in the entry Starburst Card.
I finished the ends of the threads on the backside as invisible as possible by laying them side by side and glueing them on.
In case that the backside of your card doesn’t look nice you can glue on a different coloured paper on both sides, that looks very good and conceals all imperfections.
