Fabric Inchie Collage

dotslifeandart Fabric Inchie Collage

I told before how you can make matching, but not equal paper inchies*.

Here she shows how to make wondeful fabric inchies.
It must be a lot of fun.

* What is an inchie? An Inchie is a 1″ square of art. They are made from paper or fabric and then embellished in innumerable ways (see links below).

Beaded Art Dolls

craftster Coral Beaded Art Doll

On the photo is one of the first Beaded Art Dolls I’ve ever seen and it impressed me deeply.
I always wanted to make one but haven’t had the time yet.
Up until now I only made my freeform bead embroidery ;-)

But I looked for ‘Bead Art Doll’ already ;-)
In doing so I found a mermaid and a butterfly craftalong (in a craftalong several people work on the same project and compare notes). Furthermore I found a most beautiful bird, a blog entry on the subject of ‘Beaded Art Dolls’ and several wonderful finished Beaded Art Dolls, where I like most the Wise One and the little Alien Doll.

If you want to make one, too, you can get patterns for the dolls here.

Beaded Embroidery Stitches

Actually Advent should be a time of contemplativeness and so it should exactly be the right time to try something fiddly as beaded embroidery.

For those who experience a less contemplative Advent: you will have time to try it later, too ;-))
And if you don’t have beads at hand at the moment, try some ‘normal’ embroidery ;-)

On the photo you see a beaded cross stitch, I find it cute and put it on my list of things-to-try.

Beaded Shoes

Craft Passion Beaded Shoes

I’d never have had the idea myself: beading shoes!
Up until now I mostly ‘jumped’ at buttons and pins and the bead embroidered Paisleys are still on my list, but shoes…
If you don’t like the pattern, check out again the cross stitch patterns treasures ;-)

I’m thrilled, it’s possible that I really will make them once ;-)

You can possibly even embroider your self-made shoes.
On the other hand it may be easier to spraypaint the shoes.
And if you are a sneaker type you may prefer to customize your sneakers ;-)
Besides fall has begun, possibly you better add crochet embellishments to your shoes?! ;-)

Cross Stitch Patterns Treasures

myauntsattic Cross Stitch Patterns

I found a blog where the author fetched the cross stitch patterns of an old aunt from the attic and published them.
I saw beautiful patterns thereby and it’s not as if you had to work cross stitch only with the patterns ;-)

The blog is written in Netherlands and English (the italic text), but the patterns can be recognized anyhow ;-))

Sweater Scarf

Spun Magazine Sweater Arm Scarf

Once I found an instruction on how to make a scarf from felted old sweaters but the website doesn’t exist anymore.
The photo is from the website, click to enlarge.

That’s how they did it:

  1. Wash sweaters from 100% wool (mohair works fine, too) with some laundry detergent.
  2. Felt in dryer.
Felting makes the fabric so dense that it doesn’t unravel when cut.
  3. Cut stripes from the sweaters in the width you want the scarf to be.
The lengths will vary depending on the part of the sweater where you cut the piece.
In the instruction they used mainly the arms.
  4. Eventually simply sew the pieces together, whether with a sewing machine or by hand.
The seam can be used as a decorating element.
  5. The scarf can subsequently be embellished: with buttons, felted flowers, beads, pom-poms, fringes, embroidery and so on.

In fact I would like to have a cardigan-kind garment made with this technique, no scarf.
Therefore I went to several second hand stores to look for wool sweaters but found mostly sweaters from artificial material which don’t felt.
But I stay tuned ;-)
