Round Crocheted Cardigan

junghanswolle Round Crocheted Cardigan

I wrote an entry about round knitted/crocheted cardigans already, now somebody has send me (thanks, Monika!) a link to a very nice round crocheted cardigan.
New link to different but also round crocheted instruction: Modell 124/9, Rundgehäkelte Jacke.
Grumble! Although I find the patterns of Junghanswolle beautiful they become obsolete too fast for my taste.
That’s why I give now in the links of entry a list, one or two round crocheted cardigans will hopefully stay available ;-)
What I find makes it special is the fact that it includes a graphic which shows where to put the arm holes and the size of them – this way it makes it possible that I design my own round knitted/crocheted cardigans.
Whether I will be able to finish it is just another question ;-))

Knitted Flowers

mypicot Knitted Flower

I liked the knitted rose best of all knitted flowers, that’s why I tried to knit it.
I thought that it must look cute with my white scarf.
And because it doesn’t need much thread it is great for stash use-up ;-)

unikatissima Knitted Flower That is my flower and I’m absolutely sure that I knitted it following the instructions.
Although I like it, I think that it looks more like a hyperbolic plane or a carnation flower than a rose.

I ask myself if this has to do with the fact that I have brown thumbs? ;-))

Artist Book

Artist-Book

As mentioned before in the entry about paper beads, I once created an artist book.

Step Outside Your Box Saturdays posted this week a challenge about books and I thought it an opportunity to show my artist book ‘blickkontakt’ (which means ‘eye contact’).

I wanted ‘blickkontakt’ to give the viewer many surprises to discover and created therefore several windows and fold-outs.
The pages were created from cardboard and covered in hand-stained papers. Then I stamped, embroidered, tape transfered, sketched, scribbled and glued.

Enjoy the pictures
(Click thumbnails to see photos)

Artist-Book The cover with the round medaillon in its ‘pocket’. Along the spine I let hang the threads with the paper beads.

Artist-Book Still the cover, but this time showing the backside of the round medaillon.

Artist-Book Pages 1 & 2: You see the eye through a round window, the spirals are hand-embroidered, the little altered slide can be put into the lace pocket.

Artist-Book Pages 3 & 4: The images are tape transfered, the flourishes are hand-embroidered.

Artist-Book Pages 5 & 6: I stamped, wove paper, embroidered, crocheted. The dark circle is a free swinging altered bottle cap, the semicircle on the left upper side is a fold-out, where I glued a hand-beaded star.
(Unfortunately the tape transfers gleam so, that you can’t see their motif.)

Artist-Book Pages 7 & 8: I cut two little round windows into the right page.
The raffia forms a little pocket, where I put a transparent tape transfer tag.

Artist-Book Pages 9 & 10: Stamping, tape transfers, embroidered spirals, fold-outs, hand-stained crochet flower and hand-made bead fringe.

Artist-Book The verso with tape transfers, stamps and a ringlet from a fake hairpiece.

I created more artist books, if you like to see them, take a look at Art.

Simple Napkin Holders

Ordinary Miracles of Life Simple Napkin Holders

Do you still have some cardboard tubes?
What about some simple yet really beautiful napkin holders?

The flower that looks like a rose (Satin Flower) is made in the same technique than the textile roses here, by the way.

Apart from that you can of course use different yarns instead of cord, perhaps even funky yarns?!
Possibly it was fun to use coloured yarns and little plastic toys or Lego pieces as decoration.
And it would look beautiful to make the napkin holders more in the way of the string decorated ornaments, you need less cord then ;-)
But you must paint more ;-))

And then you can always come back to my knitted/crocheted napkin rings ;-), they can be made on a cardboard tube, too, of course.

Bolero and Shrug Patterns

Jessica Tromp Bolero and Shrug Patterns

I surfed the internet a little bit and found a website with lots of most beautiful Bolero and Shrug patterns, as well knitted as well crocheted.
But of course you can make other clothes from the single crochet patterns ;-)

I find best on shrugs that they don’t take so long to make as sweaters and the like ;-))
Although I feel the same constriction about shrug-making as for the crocheted Bolero: first I want to lose some (more) weight.
A fine excuse, isn’t it? ;-))

Addendum: it seems that Jessica Tromp put the pattern somewhere else: 60 bolero-crochet-patterns.
You find the photo under bolero 6a and directly to the right the directions on making the bolero.

The instruction for the medaillon seems to be further up on the same site where the yellow bolero is.
This is the direct link, but it doesn’t work for me.

Happy crochet :)

Quick Bag from T-Shirt

unikatissima T-Shirt Yarn

Actually I prefer photo tutorials to video tutorials because I can look at photos as long and close as I want, but I find the instruction for a quick bag out of a t-shirt so great that I wanted to present it anyhow.
The way she’s making it it really takes only five minutes to make from the t-shirt a nice bag where the flap still can be embellished, e.g. with embroideries, but also with Freeform pieces crocheted extra for the flap or bead embroidered Paisleys or crochet squares or (paper) flowers or whatever you can think about ;-))

(By the way, I ‘nicked’ the photo from the entry T-Shirt Yarn ;-))

Garden Decorations

After I presented Jewelry for the Garden some time ago and yesterday the Tomato Tube Leaves I want to present today three more garden decorations from joghurt cup lids and acrylic yarn.

Instruction for the 1. decoration, the 2. decoration, the 3. decoration

1. decoration

unikatissima Garden Decorations As you can see the ornament can be used for a greeting card as well ;-)

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
I used a transparent joghurt cup lid (from a 500g joghurt cup) and variegated acrylic yarn.
Additionally you will need a darning needle.

unikatissima Garden Decorations a Template Cut a broad rim from the lid and prick 16 holes.
Then weave a spiderweb through the pre-pricked holes.

You can click the thumbnail of the template to download the enlarged template. The template is about 10 cm (appr. 4 inches), if your lid size is different you will possibly have to adapt the print size.

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
Weave the spiderweb: always over and under the threads, as long as you like.

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
Subsequently I complemented the yarn with another with a matching colour and wrapped both around the broad plastic rim.
The crochet hook made the work sometimes easier but isn’t necessary.

I glued the ornament onto a card but you can attach it to a wooden stick, e.g. a kebab skewer, too, and put into a flower box or a flower bed.

2. decoration

unikatissima Garden Decorations b I made this ornament with a lid from the same joghurt and with acrylic yarn, also.

unikatissima Garden Decorations b Template Cut your joghurt cup lid following this template (click the thumbnail of the template to download the enlarged template. The template is about 10 cm (appr. 4 inches), if your lid size is different you will possibly have to adapt the print size.)

You must also cut the black lines in the petals, but they must not reach the edge.

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
Begin ‘in’ a petal and weave both wings of the petal in eights until they are completely covered in yarn (from the center to the left and back to the center, from the center to the right and back to the center, repeat).

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
Then prick a hole in the center of the flower and weave a net (in a contrasting colour) (see photo).

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
Weave the yarn around the threads, always over and under the thread.

unikatissima Garden Decorations a
If you use the ornament as a pin or for a greeting card it is enough to weave only one side of the flower, otherwise you must work on both sides.

3. decoration

unikatissima Garden Decorations c Of course this ornament has been made with a lid from the same joghurt and with acrylic yarn ;-)
This time a darning needle is absolutely necessary.

unikatissima Garden Decorations c Template Cut and prick your joghurt cup lid following this template (click the thumbnail of the template to download the enlarged template. The template is about 10 cm (appr. 4 inches), if your lid size is different you will possibly have to adapt the print size.)

unikatissima Garden Decorations c
Simply embroider the pattern: always in and out and if you like, back again.

Crayon Tinted Fabric

unikatissima Crayon Tinted Fabric

I found a very interesting tutorial on how to tint fabric with crayons.
On the picture you see my first and up until now last (and not really successful ;-)) attempt at this technique: I laid a self crocheted flower underneath.
Better you try it by yourself ;-))

I preferred the acryl coloured fabric.
