Homemade Paint Recipes

unikatissima Homemade Paint Recipes

Via one of my most preferred check-this-out blogs art for housewives I found a website with homemade paint recipes.
I liked best that they are made with stuff from household and tempera paint or food colouring.

On the photo you see some of the ingredients I already gathered, but unfortunately I don’t have no tempera paint nor food colouring at home.
Still to purchase :)

Collograph Printing

unikatissima Collograph Printing

Once again I found a tutorial about something I really want to try once: Collograph Printing.

I think it could be fun: to glue stuff onto cardboard, to ink it and to press a sheet of paper onto.
The paragraph where they wrote, that you can use moistened watercolour paper and get some embossed paper was most interesting to me.

I will ;-))

Pattern Paper

unikatissima Pattern Paper

I found a tutorial on how to make cute, fast, self-made packages. They are self painted, respectively self stamped boxes like the recycled card pillow box I presented some time ago.
Concerning the stamping I even found an instruction on how to mass produce greeting cards (it is no real mass production, but she’s making a good many beautiful greeting cards ;-))

I had no reason yet to make this, but it is not soo long until Christmas ;-))
On the photo I already arranged my (for a good deal self carved) stamps ;-)

Make your own Wire Jig

unikatissima Make your own Wire Jig

A Wire Jig is a kind of board with pins where you can wind the wire. It is used for making jewelry.

And now I know how to make my own wire jig.
As you can see on the photo I gathered the pins already, I only have to find a wooden plate ;-)

And when you gathered all the elements of the wire jig, you can begin to make beautiful wire jewelry.

Special Shape Castings

unikatissima Special Shape Castings

I found a tutorial on easy plaster casting.
The point is mainly to create the mold of a star or the like from aluminium foil and to cast it with plaster.
Even if it is filed under ‘kids crafts’, I find the idea interesting.

I did it once, but I can’t find back my item ;-(

At that time I made a mold with a rounded bottom.
To fix it thoroughly (to prevent the plaster to ‘run away’) I put the aluminium foil mold into a layer of flour.
Sand would be as well.

Weave a Ring

unikatissima Weave a Ring
As said before, I like to play around with weaving.
The other day I thought: Why not weave a ring?
I think that it worked out amazingly good ;-))

unikatissima Weave a Ring
Material:

  • Yarn
  • Needle
  • Finger replacement ;-)
That is a roll of firmly rolled paper, it must be a little broader than your finger.

What to do:
unikatissima Weave a Ring
Wind the yarn around the finger replacement and knot.

Then wind the next round, in doing so pass the yarn under itself.

unikatissima Weave a Ring
Repeat the last step as long as you reach the ring’s width.

Now begin to weave: pass the yarn over and under the threads.

And that’s how the rings can look.
You have now a ring that you can embellish, e.g. with buttons or beads.

This technique surely can be enhanced, but it is fun already :)
Have fun!

Spool Knitting

Project Gutenberg Spool Knitting

I’m browsing from time to time Project Gutenberg and found last time a book about spool knitting from 1909. They have mittens, bed shoes, a baby ball and much more, all made from I-cords.
It feels to me like a book from the 70th’s ;-))

Perhaps I do a little rummage to play with my knitting spool once more ;-)

Center Pull Yarn Ball

Center Pull Yarn Ball

As I said before, I mostly knit/crochet with the yarn end that sits in the skein to prevent the skein to roll all over.
Sometimes I must roll my yarn ball myself and I found that the tutorial on how to make my own center pull yarn ball is really a help.
It works great!
