Lace Knitters Advent Calendar 2011

unikatissima's Lace Knitters Advent Calendar 2011

The pattern is published! :)

It’s time again: unikatissima’s Lace Knitters Advent Calendar 2011 can start on December 1 ;-))
This time we will knit a shrug or a scarf/a shawl, just as you like.

This year everythings works a little different: the actual pattern consists of 6 little patterns that can be knitted in whatever order you like.
To get the surprise feeling of an Advent calendar the 6 little patterns are named block 1-6 and are meant to be selected by rolling a die :)

But of course you can arrange the little patterns in advance to get a design that you like.
To get inspiration you may want to look at the project descriptions (read more further below).

You find the Advent calendar at ravelry (where else? ;-))

Part of it is a file that contains

  • the terms of use (valid as well for the announcement file as for the actual pattern later)
  • an instruction on how to make a shrug from a rectangle (with pictures) and
  • descriptions for 4 projects I made with the pattern.

My terms of use are also available in German.

The project descriptions contain e.g. the sizes of the four items, the used yarns and how much I needed, the needle size etc.
If you’re a ravelry member you can use the links to the used yarns via my project pages, additionally you can look in the group unikatissima what yarns were used for the last Advent calendar.

Additionally you find on the same page more PDF files, in fact the actual pattern with a chart and written instructions and a file with the German legend to the chart.

Addendum: I made all projects with a provisional cast-on for reasons of symmetry and today I eventually found a tutorial for this :))

I always have to cheat a little bit when picking up the stitches, because one ‘looses’ one stitch. Cheating means here that I knit sometimes stitches together and sometimes I make 1 by picking up the loop that lies between the stitch just worked and the following stitch and knit into it to fake a yarn over. It just depends on how the original first row looks.

If you have problems with my cheating technique, you can simply knit a couple of rows in garter stitch to ‘hide’ every unevenness.

I hope that everybody will enjoy the knitting again! :)

Crocheted Wine Charms

DROPS Crocheted Wine Charms

Hmm, first I don’t think much of wine charms and now two tutorials in a short time ;-)
Well, I thought that it’s soon New Year’s Eve and you have possibly a lot of people there who must be able to tell their glasses apart and then the crocheted ones are quite nice.
I think ;-)

You can get Crocheted Wine Charms in three ‘formats’:
American instruction: Crochet DROPS flower to decorate a glass in “Cotton Viscose”.
English instruction: Crochet DROPS flower to decorate a glass in “Cotton Viscose”.
German instruction: Kleine DROPS Rosen für Gläser in “Cotton Viscose”.

The photo is extra small – it gives you just an idea of what you will knit but (hopefully ;-)) don’t spoil the surprise.

Note:
I opened a group unikatissima at ravelry where you can discuss this pattern and my other patterns, too.
You can register at ravelry with your username and a valid email address only, with all other information about you it’s up to you whether you give them (at least it was like this when I registered ;-)).

unikatissima’s lace pattern Christmas rose

About the pattern:

    The pattern is a

  • multiple of 16 + 2 stitches,
  • needs at least 2 edge stitches extra and
  • the whole length are 550 rows.
    For my shawl I knitted

  • 3x the pattern repeat (i.e. 50 sts) with
  • about 505 m sock’s wool (meant for needles of 2,5 – 3 mm) (ca. 120 g of wool) with
  • needles of 4,5 mm and
  • got a shawl of appr. 30 x 180 cm.

But the size always depends on your gauge and also on the way you knit
– I’m always knitting very loosely.

unikatissima’s lace knitter’s advent calendar 2010 is finished now, but the shawl is still most beautiful ;-))
Therefore you can get the whole pattern in just one file here at ravelry:

I have still more lace knitting patterns in unikatissima’s shop, partly free, partly for purchase.
You may find there something that you like, too :)

Double Knitted Potholders

unikatissima Double Knitted Potholders Rosebuds

Recently I needed a gift on a quite short notice and then I remembered the double knitted potholders.
After all I still had some cotton thread (thinking of heat resistance and so on) and designed quickly a rosebud pattern (see links below).

unikatissima Double Knitted Potholders Rosebuds The potholders have – as double knitted items always have – the pattern on one side …

unikatissima Double Knitted Potholders Rosebuds … and the inverted pattern on the other.

By the way, the potholders were well received ;-)

Simple Napkin Holders

Ordinary Miracles of Life Simple Napkin Holders

Do you still have some cardboard tubes?
What about some simple yet really beautiful napkin holders?

The flower that looks like a rose (Satin Flower) is made in the same technique than the textile roses here, by the way.

Apart from that you can of course use different yarns instead of cord, perhaps even funky yarns?!
Possibly it was fun to use coloured yarns and little plastic toys or Lego pieces as decoration.
And it would look beautiful to make the napkin holders more in the way of the string decorated ornaments, you need less cord then ;-)
But you must paint more ;-))

And then you can always come back to my knitted/crocheted napkin rings ;-), they can be made on a cardboard tube, too, of course.

Knitted Flowers

mypicot Knitted Flower

I liked the knitted rose best of all knitted flowers, that’s why I tried to knit it.
I thought that it must look cute with my white scarf.
And because it doesn’t need much thread it is great for stash use-up ;-)

unikatissima Knitted Flower That is my flower and I’m absolutely sure that I knitted it following the instructions.
Although I like it, I think that it looks more like a hyperbolic plane or a carnation flower than a rose.

I ask myself if this has to do with the fact that I have brown thumbs? ;-))

Modular Rectangular Box

Rosemary Lyndall Wemm Modular Rectangular Box

I find those rectangular folded boxes absolutely great!

Unfortunately I discovered them too late, but if you haven’t begun yet (oops! ;-)), they are great for an Advent calendar, too ;-)
But take your time, I once made an Advent calendar from similar, but square boxes (instructions from a book) and it took foreeever to finish it.
I use it nearly every year though and it is still beautiful ;-)

And apart from that you can still use them for the Christmas gifts, I think that it would look wonderful, too :)
