Online Pythagoras Calculator

unikatissima Pythagoras Calculator

I decided to crochet a Bolero from self-designed crochet motives and selected the Bolero 1 as pattern (see the links below on how to find the pattern).

Jessica Tromp Bolero Patterns With Bolero 1 the square crochet motives are worked standing on their tip and I knew the width of the back of my Bolero.
So then I ‘only’ had to find out how long the edges of my crochet motives have to be and it’s Pythagoras who’s responsible for ;-)
And then I thought that I’m surely not the only one with such questions. You can get the same problem e.g. if you want to knit Entrelac and want to find out the size of the individual squares. I suppose that there are more uses for this when crafting or needleworking.
For all those people I wrote my Online Pythagoras Calculator ;-)

Venetian Crochet Motif

I find this Venetian crochet motif most beautiful and I’m impressed if someone makes from single motifs a whole top.

I also found an instruction and even an instruction for a round lace collar.
Sigh.

Tea Dyed Doily Scarf

flickr myauntdebbie - Doily Scarf

I must confess that in fact I like to crochet doilies – but I don’t want to have them, because I don’t have a clue about what to do with them ;-).
That’s perhaps the reason why I like so much putting together things from squares or the like ;-))

Well, now I can make me such a doily scarf ;-)
I think that you can very well hand-dye it with tea or coffee.

Bolero and Shrug Patterns

Jessica Tromp Bolero and Shrug Patterns

I surfed the internet a little bit and found a website with lots of most beautiful Bolero and Shrug patterns, as well knitted as well crocheted.
But of course you can make other clothes from the single crochet patterns ;-)

I find best on shrugs that they don’t take so long to make as sweaters and the like ;-))
Although I feel the same constriction about shrug-making as for the crocheted Bolero: first I want to lose some (more) weight.
A fine excuse, isn’t it? ;-))

Addendum: it seems that Jessica Tromp put the pattern somewhere else: 60 bolero-crochet-patterns.
You find the photo under bolero 6a and directly to the right the directions on making the bolero.

The instruction for the medaillon seems to be further up on the same site where the yellow bolero is.
This is the direct link, but it doesn’t work for me.

Happy crochet :)

Quick Bag from T-Shirt

unikatissima T-Shirt Yarn

Actually I prefer photo tutorials to video tutorials because I can look at photos as long and close as I want, but I find the instruction for a quick bag out of a t-shirt so great that I wanted to present it anyhow.
The way she’s making it it really takes only five minutes to make from the t-shirt a nice bag where the flap still can be embellished, e.g. with embroideries, but also with Freeform pieces crocheted extra for the flap or bead embroidered Paisleys or crochet squares or (paper) flowers or whatever you can think about ;-))

(By the way, I ‘nicked’ the photo from the entry T-Shirt Yarn ;-))

Crochet Afghan Squares

Priscilla Hewitt Fishermans Ring

I presented several crochet squares already but the one on the photo is one of my favorites since a long time.
Unfortunately I couldn’t crochet it immediately and haven’t had the time yet to try it unhurriedly.

If you like it, too, you can download a PDF file (ca. 970 KB) with the instructions for 17(!) most beautiful crochet squares at the Free Pattern Index of Priscilla’s Crochet (Afghan Squares).

And then you can begin with your crochet Afghan ;-))

Again something that you can make from crochet squares – and muuuch more faster than afghans ;-)) – a hat from five crochet squares.

But I never wear hats…

Recently I presented the crocheted bolero, now a tablecloth (or afghan) made of crocheted squares. Even if the magazin where the instruction comes from seems to be a little oldfashioned I really like the pattern.

Crochet Quilts

Happy Yellow House Clays Choice Crochet Quilt

I’d never finish such a crochet quilt afghan (that’s just like with the lace cable afghan ;-)), but I find the idea so great to make from two kinds of crochet squares (solid coloured and diagonally bi-coloured) quasi classic quilts.

I wrote an entry before about clothes from crocheted medaillons and about crochet joining (which surely can be useful for making the crochet quilt afghans), and I find that the afghan goes perfectly with them (concerning the technique, not the wearing ;-)).

To tell the truth I also find really great her rules for selling: she says that you can sell items made with her patterns (if you don’t mass produce).
By and large I agree totally with her :)
Nonetheless I find that you always have to read and to respect the terms of use of the respective rights owner!

Crocheted Bolero

crochetme Crystal Lace Bolero

I liked the crocheted Bolero immediately, especially because I always like items crocheted together from pieces.
Robyn published additionally a blog entry with more information.

Actually I wont crochet the Bolero (in the near future? ;-)) because I want to lose weight before.
But then… ;-)
