Chainstitch Card

unikatissima Chainstitch Card

I just wanted to show once more how beautiful embroidery on paper and cardboard can be ;-)

Here I cut a beautiful blue patterned square from a magazine and glued on white cardboard.
Then I drew very faint curved lines with a pencil, pricked holes along the lines and stitched them with a chain stitch.
Looks fine, doesn’t it?

I find though that the chain stitch looks much better on straight lines or wide curves than on sharp turns (it ‘inclines’ somewhat), that’s something one could pay attention to when drawing the lines.

Embellished Oranges

unikatissima Embellished Orange

This time it’s no ‘real’ instruction but an inspiration: Embellished Grapefruits Embellished Grapefruits. (Click there for the actual pieces on the thumbnails and see e.g. Two Pods Two Pods.)
Because I’m always impatient I preferred to use a piece from an orange – grapefruits are so big ;-)

While working I had a lot of fun.
I like the embroidery of orange peels nearly as much as embroidery on paper. The most uncommon thing I had to do was to give my needle a wash ;-))

unikatissima Embellished Orange After the embroidery I put the orange peel between several layers of tissue paper in an old telephon book and let it dry ‘flat’.
Actually I had hoped that I can coat it with medium gel afterwards and wear as a pendant, but I don’t really like the ‘flat version’ of my orange peel.

unikatissima Embellished Orange I find worst that the threads now stand up now like croquet wickets, I really don’t like this.

At the next opportunity I will see if I can make it better.
If it works I will perhaps embroider beads on, that should be interesting, perhaps Paisleys or simply Freeform.

Individually Shaped Cards

unikatissima Shaped Card

I found an instruction on how to make shaped cards.
I really liked the flower cards e.g., but I’m more one for thinking in words than in pictures. All I could think about when needing a ‘Get well soon card’ was therefore making a card from the letters G and B (in German, ‘Get well soon’ is ‘Gute Besserung’) ;-)

unikatissima Shaped Card (Click picture to enlarge)
I joined them with an embroidery stitch (running stitch back and forth) and embroidered some little ‘flowers’ ( I looove embroidery on paper ;-)).

I like it and I hope that it ‘helps’ ;-)

Cross Stitch Heart

unikatissima Cross Stitch Heart

Valentine’s Day makes everything more heart-ily somehow ;-))
Besides I wanted to show what you can do else with the heart template of the day before yesterday (Beaded Square Stitch Heart), viz. a really nice cross stitch heart.
I didn’t have any Aida fabric or similar, besides I always prefer to embroider on paper or fine cardboard ;-)
I therefore glued some plain gift wrap paper on fine cardboard, pre-pricked the holes (which you should always do when embroidering on paper) and embroidered my heart with metallic sewing threads (instructions on how to embroider the cross stitch see links below).
Subsequently I connected the border holes, cut the cardboard into a nicer shape and glued it on a greeting card.
I really like it ;-)

Recycled Gift Tags

Hamburger Liebe Recycled Gift Tags

I find these recycled gift tags great!

As well the round as the rectangular elements can depending on the season easily be cut from old Birthday, Christmas, Easter, Spring or whatever cards, or from matching gift wrap papers that are glued to white paper for reinforcement.

In place of the gift wrap papers you should also can use pages from old books, beautiful pictures from (travel) brochures or self-made or self-stamped paper.
And photos.

And, yes, you should also be able to make a coupon Advent calendar! :)

And then you can also embroider, doodle, paint, cut to paper flowers the elements.
And incorporate small beads or yarn threads.

Whew, my imagination rans riot again ;-))

Felt and Zipper Jewelry

etsy Woolly Fabulous Felt and Zipper Jewelry

I don’t present the felt and zipper jewelry as tutorial, but as suggestion what you can do with little material :)
You can do similar things also as e.g. embroidered paper or as simple doodle for greeting cards, as jewelry or decoration.

How to Press Flowers, Leaves and Herbs

unikatissima Clematis VII

I already wrote about drying flowers in the microwave and about flower pounding, here at how to press flowers, leaves and herbs you can find general and comprehensive tips, there are some that I want to try out ;-)

And what to do then with the pressed flowers and leaves?
That is what I did:
unikatissima Clematis VII On the picture you see a little ‘piece of art’ that was meant originally as a card but is much to time-consuming for this: it is a Clematis petal pressed in an old phone book, embellished with self-made decorative paper and hand embroidery.

unikatissima Der trockene Sommer Here I’ve pressed a leek leaf in an old phone book, too, and embroidered it.

unikatissima Herbst I don’t know what kind of leaf this is, but I combined it with self-made decorative paper, self-made ‘papyrus’ and hand embroidery.

Quick Bag from T-Shirt

unikatissima T-Shirt Yarn

Actually I prefer photo tutorials to video tutorials because I can look at photos as long and close as I want, but I find the instruction for a quick bag out of a t-shirt so great that I wanted to present it anyhow.
The way she’s making it it really takes only five minutes to make from the t-shirt a nice bag where the flap still can be embellished, e.g. with embroideries, but also with Freeform pieces crocheted extra for the flap or bead embroidered Paisleys or crochet squares or (paper) flowers or whatever you can think about ;-))

(By the way, I ‘nicked’ the photo from the entry T-Shirt Yarn ;-))

Sun Card

unikatissima Sun Card

Recently I needed a card for a man which had to show the colours wine red and gold.
What is more I wanted it simple yet elegant and I think that it worked out ;-))
(Click the picture to get an enlarged view.)

unikatissima Sun Card Inside The pattern shows inside, too.
Because I didn’t like the writing to be directly on the wine red I put a crème coloured paper in.

unikatissima Sun Card Template You can click the thumbnail of the template to download the enlarged template. The template is about 10 cm (appr. 4 inches), if you like to have a different size you will have to adapt the print size.

Simply lay the template on your card and prick all holes where you want to thread the yarn through (there are several possibilities, just try it).
Then weave in the thread.

Note: If you use an overlong thread you only get a thread tangle.
That’s why I worked in rings that I finished one by one.
You can find the technique that I used to thread the yarn through the hole in the entry Starburst Card.
I finished the ends of the threads on the backside as invisible as possible by laying them side by side and glueing them on.
In case that the backside of your card doesn’t look nice you can glue on a different coloured paper on both sides, that looks very good and conceals all imperfections.
